Yoga and Wellness

Teachers

Heather Stewart

I came to the mat in 1999 and have not looked back!

I started teaching in 2004 when my own teacher decided that I was ready.

With teaching I discovered a new love and depth of yoga went on to complete two yoga teacher trainings with Maureen Rae and Felicia and Ante Pavlovic.

I believe that all teachers have something to offer and have also practiced with Hart Lazer, Rodney Yee, Stephen Cope, Seane Corn, Richard Freeman, Wade Imre Morissette, Eoin Finn, and David Life.

My teaching style and my own practice are based on honouring individual pranic flow any given day, at any given moment.  Each pose is expressed differently by each person, and that is a beautiful thing.

I also hold a certification in meditation facilitation, CanFitPro certifications as a Personal Training Specialist and Nutrition Wellness Specialist, Advanced Reiki Healing, Advanced Cranialsacral certification and am a Registered Massage Therapist.

I have gained a broad range of teaching, coaching and leadership experiences in over 20 years of teaching in the fitness industry.

In 2002 I “discovered” Yoga and have since explored a number of styles but it was during a trip in 2004 were I fell in “love” with the Viniyoga style being taught in Mahalbapuram India.

I am certified in Vinyasa flow Yoga and hold a YMCA Training Educator Certification.

I have been practicing Nia for 6 years and began teaching Nia in the summer of 2006.

I believe that Nia has so much to offer every BODY, and am exited about the potential of bringing its vibrant energy to my students.

I found my groove, my energy centre, and my natural rhythm through Nia. It has introduced me to my essence and given me a way to free my body, express my heart and clear my mind. Through Nia I have been welcomed into a peaceful community where it’s ok to be genuine.

You see, in Nia, there is no “right” or “wrong” movement. Nia respects the body’s way and encourages me to let my body guide my way. It has taught me to respect and appreciate the wonder of my unique body and has legitimized the creative source that drives me.

I enthusiastically embrace the potential for fitness, healing and spiritual development that Nia offers and yearn to share that with all my students!

My experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist has given me the tools to relate well with diverse communities. I have a flexible and innovative nature and am sensitive to the varying needs of each individual. I look forward to sharing my passion for movement with you and helping you find your very own joy of movement.
